Humanitarian Assistance to a Distant Island

Traditionally, Ukrainian Helicopters' pilots came to the rescue of Madagascar people affected by tropical hurricanes. This time the hurricane called "Ivan the Terrible" left homeless thousand of families in the eastern part of the island.

Similar to the last year, the main operations were focused on transportation of the humanitarian cargo to the villages inaccessible by the overland mode of transport. For less than one month the Aviation Company transported 260 tons of foodstuff, considerable part of which was transported with external sling, as it proved to be more efficient and faster way of delivery. Mr. Roger Berriaux, the representative of the World Food Programme, who was monitoring the operations, said the utilization factor of the aircraft was rather high and achieved 105%.
