Hurricane Rescue Operation in Haiti

At the beginning of the 2008 damages caused by a destructive hurricane in Haiti were in the lime light of international media. The Gonnaive town was devastated by floods, its inhabitants were forced to look for a shelter on the roofs of the buildings and on the trees. Lack of drinking water and food; completely destroyed roads; people cut off from the world...  The Haitians were facing a real threat of humanitarian disaster. Helicopters were the only means to reach Gonnaive at that stage. Efficient team work of Ukrainian Helicopters and the UN peace keeping staff resulted in saving of numbers of human lives. The Ukrainian Helicopters rescued people from flooded areas, transported humanitarian goods, food, water and medicines. Our pilots demonstrated high professionalism and extensive experience, thus proving to be a real asset for the Haiti UN mission officers.
