This is a unique project, which involves versatile, quick-convertible helicopters equipped with specialized medical modules. One or two medical modules are installed on board the helicopter (the configuration varies depending on a specific task). Each medical module is fitted with the lung ventilation device, monitoring and defibrillation system, cardiograph and other modern medical equipment.

Each medical module enables the intensive care of two severe litter cases. Using these modules, Ukrainian helicopters’ crews rescued 15 injured and 8 ill patients critically requiring medical aid.

The cabin crew is accomplished with the qualified medical team, consisting of doctor, nurse and paramedic. Many of them are experienced in performing similar operations in the areas with a high level of risks, such as Iraq and Afghanistan.

‘Our Air Ambulance is on call 24-hours duty. If we need to evacuate the injured in the dark, we fly at night using Integrated Night Vision Imaging System. Our medics also work in Night Vision Goggles. They provide on-board emergency medical aid to the patients before taking them to the hospital, so we are able to save more lives of the severely injured patients’, - said Vasyl Holota, Chief Pilot of Ukrainian Helicopters` team in Mali.

Ukrainian Helicopters started its operation in Mali in September 2016. Two Air Ambulance helicopters perform MEDEVAC operations.
